KIPI – ENEZ
The small town of Kipi on the Greek side of the border is worth visiting, especially on Saturday, which is market day. Leave Kipi and cross the border into Turkey. Drive a further 25 kilometres south and you reach the Turkish town of Enoz. Ainos was the ancient Thracian name. Situated in the Evros Delta and by the shores of one of thje delta’s largest lakes. Enez is perfect from watching birds, swimming and eating at the local fish taverns.

KASTANIES – EDRINE
Leave Greece from the border village of Kastanies and drive a mere 10 kilomtres to Erdrine, which used to be the ancient Greek and Roman city of Adrianople. Edrine was until 1453, the capital of the Ottomans. This little visited town, which is off the tourist beaten track, boast splendid Ottoman architecture. Visit the mosques, the bazaar and covered markets, the Turkish baths and inns, the magnificent palace of Mourat II and the shrine of Vayazit and wonder around the tallest mosque in all Turkey.

KIPRINOS – IVAYLOGRAD
You leave from Kiprinos in Greece and cross into Bulgaria and drive to Ivaylograd. This town is a popular destination for tourists because of its unspoiled environment and the Arda river gorge which flows through it. Here, organised eco-tourism organises all kinds of interesting recreational activities and pursuits. Tourists interested in examining archaeological remains, worth visiting is the old Roman villa Armira and its impressive mosaic floor, the medieval castle of Lyutitsa, also know as the ‘Marble City’, Thrascian antiquities, the bridge of Aterenski and a large number of picturesque churches and mosques dating from the 19th century.

ORMENIO – HASKOVO
You leave Greece from Ormenio and drive the 57 kilometres to Haskovo. This bustling town boasts threatres, cinemas, a casino, galleries and has the tallest statue to the Virgin Mary (32 metres). Worth visiting is the medieval castle of Shishman, the hot springs (Minerali Bani) and a little outside the town, the Hellenistic tomb at Aleksandro with it fine murals.
