History Museum of Alexandroupolis

The three-storey building which houses Historical Museum of Alexandroupolis is located in the city center on the 335 Democracy Avenue, opposite the Town Hall.

The museum has a total area of 700 sq.m. distributed on four levels.
• The first floor of the building has the permanent exhibition and display items and information on the history of Alexandroupolis. It includes displays on the archaeological sites and findings in the area, the founding of the city and its relationship with the railway, port, urban and architecture and information the city’s economy and politics, its intellectual and social life and the diverse population groups who formed the city.
The exhibition is presented through a modern museological approach, using photographic compositions and representational material, interactive media and projections, as well as collections of documents and relics from archives and donations from private and public entities
• Theintermediate mezzanine floor hosts the collection of costumes of the on Sarakatsani nomadic people donated by Helen Philippides. She was an important personality with a decisive role in the city's cultural life after the war. Through unique exhibits and representations, the museum present the life, activities and artefacts Sarakatsanoi women and their particular nomadic life.
• The ground floor is used for temporary exhibitions and displays different exhibits of the Museum.
• In the basement there are the collections, including the archives and the library of the Museum.
The Historical Museum of Alexandroupolis, within the context of its activities, organizes temporary exhibitions, workshops, lectures, book presentations, educational educational programs, cultural events and tours of historical and cultural interest in Greece and abroad.
