Nalbandis, Municipal Art Gallery

The Municipal Art Gallery is housed in the former Nalbandis Vafeiadis mansion. A building with an interesting design, it is a two-storey symmetrically designed residential house with curved wooden balcony. An internal stairways takes you down to servants quarters. The view from the back windows are magnificent and one sees the Erythropotamos river, the Evros river on whose opposite bank one can see Turkish villages. The building has been restored by the municipality and serves as a Municipal Gallery Demetriou Nalbantis. The Gallery was opened in May 2000 by Theodore and Gianna Angelopoulos. All the paintings and the frescoes, which are inside and outside the building were donated by Dimitrios Nalbandis to the Municipality of Didymoteichou.
