Rhodope Prefecture is famous for the natural beauty of the mountains and the sea. Along the sea coast is Lake Vistonias and Porto Largo area. This wetland link up with the Nestos Delta which is in Xanthi Region. Located in the lake is the monastic complex of St. Nicolas. This monastic complex reminds the visitor of Venice. Built on two tiny islands the monastery is connected to the mainland by walkways.
 
The capital of Rhodope is Komotini. This town has the largest concentration of Turkish Muslims in all Greece.  This multi-racial and cultural diverse city is embellished with fine churches and mosques. 
 
To the north are the Rhodope mountains. A dream landscape for hikers and lovers of nature wishing to see spectacular landscapes and breath taking views.
 
Back to the south along the coast is the archaeological site of Mesemvria and Maroneia. Here visitors can experience the romantic beauty of these archaeological sites, which are set with the Aegean sea a s backdrop
