16th part of Drama cultural routes - BUMBURAS’ MANSION

BUMBURAS’ MANSION (Hagia Sofia Street)

THIS IMPOSING BUILDING is known as the “Bumburas’ residence”, after the name of its first owner. It is a rare and outstanding work of art with two floors, built between 1926 and 1927 next to the church of St. Sophia. The artistic elaboration of its façade and the outer ornamental details are unique: window lintels and crowns, balcony door lintels, balcony console brackets, eaves, decorative windowsill colonnades, Art-Nouveau style main entrance. The eccentric location of its main entrance and of its stairwell tower is an original component of its blueprint.
