21st part of Drama cultural routes - PAMBOUKAS’ MANSION

PAMBOUKAS’ MANSION
(10 Perdikkas Street)

THE “MANSION” was originally the ownership of tobacco merchant Pamboukas. It is one more example of the eclectic architecture of the late 19th and early 20th century. Its designer, Christos Demopoulos, was an assistant to Austrian engineer Konrad Von Vilas. The way this L-shaped building blends in perfectly with its surrounding space, shows Demopoulos’ skillfulness in terms of architectural harmony. The main entrance features a staircase with two arched flights of stairs, one of the Austrian engineer’s favorite themes, also encountered in some of his other buildings, such as the “Child Protection Center of Drama”.
