Island of Thasos

Thassos: An island of Golden beaches, coves and picturesque bays, crystal clear waters, olive groves, shady forests , cliffs, rivers and small waterfalls make up this palette of nature.

According to legend; this is Homer’s island of the Sirens and not unjustly as it always captivated and still seduces travellers who approach it.

Prehistoric and historic sites, archaeological sites of great importance, early Christian basilicas, monasteries, churches like carved temples, mountain villages with their traditional architecture and hospitality, invite the visitor to an exciting journey into the past.

The Archaeological Museum of Thassos, is one of the most remarkable regional museums in the country.

The museum “Polygnotos Vagi” exhibits the work of one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century.

The Festival of Philippi-Thassos which takes place in the island's ancient theatre, includes cultural and folklore events that thrill and delight visitors.

Modern tourist facilities satisfying the most demanding requirements, for all tastes, ages and budgets.

One can choose between alternative forms of tourism. Tranquillity is offered by the island’s nature, in contrast to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the island’s nightlife.

Honey, virgin olive oil, savoury dishes, fresh fish and fresh Thassian young goat meat is offered at food stores and in pleasant and cheerful tavernas and restaurants.

The smell of pine, the salty scent of thyme follow visitors as they say farewell to the island as they depart on their homeward journeys.

See, hear, smell, taste and touch Thassos.
