Alexandroupolis is well served with a modern port, railway, international airport and the European motorway, Egnatia Odos. This inter-modal transport network has made the town an important economic growth pole.
Situated in the town is: the University Hospital of the Democritus University of Thrace; An industrial zone; an important network of banks; and tourist infrastructure which give the town a cosmopolitan and tourist character.
The town has a tradition of fine cuisine, consisting of sea-foods and fresh fish. This is due to the 25 kilometres of coastline which stretches from the Evros River Delta to Makri and on to the archaeological site of Mesimvrias where extensive groves of trees reach the sea.
Alexandroupolis is designated a “Blue Flag beach city”. Close to the town is the camping site which is situated in a beautiful, lush and well wood area of 7 hectares, in one of the most attractive areas in Greece.
